Alan Rothschild co-presented Charitable Giving 2019 at a nationwide event sponsored by ACTEC

Our Shareholder Alan Rothschild recently co-presented a nationwide continuing legal education program.  The program, titled Charitable Giving in 2019: Favored Techniques in the Current Tax and Economic Environment, was sponsored by the American College of Trust and Estate Council (“ACTEC”).

Alan is a member of ACTEC’s Charitable Planning and Exempt Organizations Committees.  A substantial part of his practice includes the representation of nonprofit organizations, and assisting individuals on the planning of significant charitable gifts.

Linda D. Nguyen receives 2018 J.R. Allen Award Distinguished Leadership and Service Award

The Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce presented the 2018 J.R. Allen Award to Page Scrantom Shareholder Linda D. Nguyen at its Annual Gala on February 21, 2019.  The J.R. Allen Distinguished Leadership and Service Award is named after former Columbus Mayor J. R.  Allen and is given annually to an outstanding young leader in the Columbus, Georgia region.  Linda has been actively engaged with the Chamber of Commerce since 2010 and currently serves on its Board of Directors.  She is also a board member of the Muscogee Educational Excellence Foundation which advocates for excellence in public education in the region.

Alan Rothschild Presents on Charitable Giving at National Estate Planning Conference

Our Shareholder Alan Rothschild participated in a panel discussion on Negotiating and Drafting Successful Charitable Gift Agreements at the 53rd Annual Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning in Orlando, Florida on January 16, 2019.  With over 3,400 attendees, the Heckerling conference is the largest gathering of estate planning professionals in the nation.

Rothschild presented with Donna J. Snyder, Associate General Counsel, University of Michigan, and Carolyn O. Ward of Ropes & Grapy, LLP, Washington, DC.  The session discussed real life examples of how charitable gifts get off track and offered practical suggestions for drafting gift agreements that effectively address future changes in circumstances, donor involvement, naming (and un-naming) rights, and amendments to existing agreements.

Alan Rothschild becames chair of the State Bar of Georgia’s Nonprofit Law Section

On July 1st, our partner Alan Rothschild became chair of the State Bar of Georgia’s Nonprofit Law Section.   The purpose of the Section is to provide, serve and act as a central association and forum for the study, discussion and dissemination of ideas and information with respect to, and common problems created by, the field of Nonprofit Law.  A significant part of Alan’s practice involves the planning of charitable gifts on behalf of his private wealth clients and the representation of a broad range of private foundations and public charities, including community foundations and university-related foundations.  He also serves as Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami School of Law, where he teaches a course in the Master of Law program on Charitable Giving and Exempt Organizations.

Alan Rothschild Speaks at Duke University Estate Planning Conference

Alan Rothschild was a featured speaker at the 39th Annual Duke University Estate Planning Conference at the Duke University School of Law on October 12, 2017.

Alan’s presentation, “The Tax and Practical Basics of Private Foundations,” provided a practical overview of common foundation operational issues and how to address these issues under current legal and best practice guidelines.

The Duke University Estate Planning Conference is one of the country’s premier annual estate planning conferences and is designed to examine in detail current developments in the estate and gift tax field.
