Austin was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia. Before graduating from Columbus State University in December 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in History, Austin attended local public schools, graduating from Columbus High School in 2010. While at Columbus State University, Austin was inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Austin pursued his J.D. at Mercer University School of Law in Macon, Georgia. While at Mercer, Austin was a member of the Mercer Law Review Editorial Board, serving as a Managing Editor for the 68th Volume. In addition to his work on Law Review, Austin also participated in Moot Court and edited the Journal of Southern Legal History on behalf of the Georgia Legal History Foundation. In March 2017, Austin represented Mercer in the Ruby R. Vale Interschool Corporate Moot Court Competition in Wilmington, Delaware, with Mercer eventually placing first in the competition. Austin graduated magna cum laude in 2017 and was inducted into the Brainerd Currie Honor Society.
